Commodore Ioannis Leivadaros HN was born in Athens in 1970 and graduated from the Hellenic Naval Academy in 1993. After graduation, he began his career serving on HS YDRA (MEKO class frigate) and HS ELLI (S class frigate). In 1995, fascinated by submarines, he decided to change course and joined the submarine family.
After completing his initial training, he served on:
a. HS POSEIDON (S-116) for his early underwater missions.
b. HS NIREFS (S-111) as Sonar Officer, Operations and Weapons Officer.
c. HS NIREFS (S-111) as Executive Officer.
d. HS POSEIDON (S-116) as Commander from 2006 to 2010.
His following shore tours included serving at:
a. Hellenic Navy General Staff, as Staff Officer.
b. French Maritime Force (FRMARFOR), as Staff Officer.
c. Hellenic Navy Submarines Command, as Chief of Staff.
d. Hellenic National Defence General Staff, as Staff Officer.
In June 2024, he reported to Hellenic Fleet Command as the Commander of the Hellenic Submarines.
In January 2026, he was promoted to the rank of Commodore and assumed the duties of Deputy Commander of the Hellenic Naval Academy.
His education includes graduation from all Officers’ Submarine School courses as well as the Hellenic Supreme Joint War College and National Defense College.
Commodore I. Leivadaros HN is awarded with all relevant decorations and medals of the Hellenic Republic and the Hellenic Armed Forces, up to his rank.
He speaks English.
He is married and has two children.
