Commodore Athanasios Papakonstantinou HN was born in Volos Greece on April 23, 1969. He joined the Hellenic Naval Academy in 1987 and graduated in 1991 as Ensign of the Hellenic Navy.

His fleet operational tours include assignments on board Frigates as Communications/EW, Air Defense Officer, Principal Warfare Officer and Operations Director, Weapons/Electronic Systems Director and Executive Officer (XO).

He has also served as:

• Staff Officer and Director of the Operations Directorate in the Hellenic Frigates Command.
• Aid-de-Camp of the Commander in Chief of the Hellenic Fleet.
• Hellenic Navy General Staff (HNGS / A4) Section Head (Communication and Tactical Systems)
• Hellenic Navy General Staff (HNGS/B3) Section Head (Personnel and Career Pety Officers)

His command tours include the Fast Patrol Boat HS XENOS (2007-2009) and the Frigate HS KOUNTOURIOTIS (2012-2014).

From 2014 to 2017 he served at the Operations Center of NATO Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE/CCOMC).

From 2017 to 2019 he served as Deputy Director of the Office of the CHOD.

On 2018 he was promoted to Captain and on July 2019 assumed duties of the Director of the Military Office of the Minister of Defence.

On July 2023 he assumed the Command of the Hellenic Navy Tactical Training School (H.N.T.T.S).

On February 2025 he was promoted to Commodore and was assigned as Deputy Commander in the Hellenic Naval Academy.

He has attended the International Principal Warfare Officer course in Portsmouth, UK (HMS DRYAD, (1996).

He is a graduate of the Naval Staff Officer School (1998), the Hellenic Supreme Joint War College (2009) and the Hellenic National Defense College (2023).

He has been awarded with all the medals, decorations and commendations stipulated for an officer of his rank and seniority.

He has participated in Operations “NATO SHARP GUARD” (Air Defence Officer HS LIMNOS), “NATO IFOR” (OPSO HS AEGEAN) and “UN UNIFIL” (CO HS XENOS).

He is married to Evmorfia Loli and has a son.
